In an undisclosed location near the outskirts of the city was what resembled a mansion on the outside but a dim serious interior. While it may have resembled a lot of what Price's home contained, this home was more discreet and had a sense of focus. Many of the rooms were regular run of the mill rooms like a kitchen, living room, etc. A woman was cleaning a pan in the kitchen while soft jazzy music played from a radio on the counter. The front doors opened and Dante walked in, his men stayed outside for a few moments before going home. The woman heard the door and met him in the doorway, they shared a kiss. "I was wondering if you were ever going to come home."
"Sorry, I had some extracirricular business to attend to."
"Were you nice?"
"I owed him a favor, small search and retrieve job. Nothing I haven't handled before."
"Wasn't Vinnie again was it?"
"No, no. Price. Made it up the ladder okay but has a temper and gets weak under pressure."
"They can't all be you."
"They can't all be period. Too many out there. Figured I'd do this favor for him and then have him eliminated."
"Why even do the favor?"
"For my own consence. The favor will make us squared and he will be back to nothing to me."
"Hopefully this one is actually a quick easy one because I don't see you enough around here."
"It'll be done before you know it, I'm going to have my best guys on it."
"Sounds perfect."
"Going to go call them in now, I'll be done for you in a few minutes."
"Have fun."
They kissed and Dante went upstairs to his office. It looked just like an old library with a small desk at the back and a lamp illuminating the corner. He sat in his chair and after looking outside for a minute picked up the phone. The dial tone rang and another man picked up. "Red."
"It's me. I have a job for you and I'd like this one to be quick."
"All ears boss."
Edward and Meg walked along the park towards the other edge until they discovered a small bridge crossing a lake. The moon dazzled in the water and there was a family of ducks exiting the one side.
"I still can't believe there are cities out there that are like this. Home seems so bad and disgusting now."
"Home will always be home but I do know what you mean. I guess after a while you get used to all the grey and assume it's all like that."
She walked over to the bridge and looked over into the water. Her reflection stared back up at her. She looked tired but glowing. Edward walked up behind her and held her. "Enjoying our night so far?"
"Couldn't have asked for anything better. Walking along this lake is soothing and I actually forget that I'm in a park in a new city. It's familiar somehow, making me feel at home. Peaceful."
"Do you miss it?"
"Home? No....no not really. I mean, I guess I miss it a little but it may be because I was there my whole life, kinda got used to it. As for everything else, no I don't think so. My apartment was alright. I don't miss my friend. Or the crime. Or that damn rain."
"Oh it didn't rain that much."
"So far on our little adventure, how many days has it rained on us?"
He knew he was caught. "Okay okay, like every day."
"Exactly."
"You are so beautiful you know that?"
She blushed as her ran his fingers through her hair. She leaned back into him and they held under the moonlight for what seemed like forever. "We should get going, I'm getting tired."
He kissed the back of her head and took her hand. They walked to the hotel and rode the elevator up never letting go of the other.
"So, he let them slip and they hopped a train to the coast to retrieve some case of money?"
"Yes. They are not on the train any longer as they ran into some issues and had to hop off."
"Well, as long as they are still en route to the coast then there are three or four major areas along the way, each one a good distance apart. Dropping the train was a stupid idea."
"They don't strike me as geniuses but they have gotten this far so that's something."
"You said he had a secret farm house station to pick up strays who happened to take them in too?"
"Yes, the whole thing is an embarrassing shit storm of stupid ideas."
"Well they were last seen at the small town near there so if they are still on the main road to the coast that should put them near or in the next town from there."
"That was my guess, are your men still posted out that way?"
"I think there are a couple, I'll contact them. Even if I don't have anyone out that way, I can get some out there within a day."
"I'm putting my trust in you. Nothing is to happen to them until they have the case or tell where it is. Then I don't care what you do to them."
"Sounds good to me, I'll be in touch."
"Wooo, I think those drinks are finally starting to hit me darlin'"
Meg sauntered out from the bathroom wearing one of Edward's shirts and only that. She spun in a slow circle and did a little dance. "Va va va vooom."
"What are you doing with my shirt dancing around haha."
"Don't you like Mr. Man?" She bounced around a little and did a pin up model pose. The shirt wasn't buttoned right and one of her nipples shown through the hole.
"I like alright, it's late, get in bed and you can va va voom all you want."
"I need some ice, you stay right there. I'm gonna get some water to try and normalize myself. Be right back."
She left and walked down the hall to the ice machine with her cup in hand. She could already feel the effects wearing off, probably on account of being so tired. Opening the lid of the ice machine she bent in and started scooping into her cup. A man walked past and into his room, he didn't shut the door for a minute until Meg looked up and at him. After the door shut she realized she wasn't wearing any panties and was bent over inside the ice machine. Wonderful. The thought of her bent over flashing her bare ass at some stranger was a bit sobering and embarrassing. She ran back to the room and downed her water. She slithered into bed next to Edward who was already basically out and attached herself to him like a spider monkey. This was her favorite part of the night. The time she could actually breath and all her nerves disappeared. It happened. It actually happened. A night where nothing occurred. She wasn't shot at, chased, or threatened. Hell she didn't even have to run today. Smiling, she closed her eyes and was whisked off to sleep while she rested on Edward's chest.
The phone rang in the apartment of a dangerous looking individual. "Yeah?"
"It's Red, you close to town?"
"Not far but I could be. Few hours."
"Good. Get there as fast as you can and then call me once you get in. We have a job."

Half the Company During a Walk in the Park
The rest of the evening went swimmingly with the couple sharing a dessert and sharing stories of each other's past that they each found humorous and slightly embarrassing. The piano player kept the mood going with various tunes that were meant to be soothing background noise. As the night came to a close the two of them made for the exit and were on a high neither had felt in some time. They exited the club and walked hand in hand down the night street, the streetlamps lit up a gold road ahead of them and the wind whistled slowly a small soundtrack to their night. This town was beautiful and a stark contrast to where they both came from. This one felt warm and colorful, a maze of life and energy. If there were more like this then it was true that her home city was a grey cold place full of bad memories and failure. It's a wonder why they didn't talk about these places more in schools. Trying to keep people from leaving the area I guess.
"You know, I haven't had a night like this since before I started my business."
"I don't think I ever had, at least not this nice."
"The singer was quite good, sometimes at these places they have some amateur band who plays so loudly you can't hear yourself think."
"I remember a lot of those when I went to school. Band competitions and school dances were full of them. They have to know they sound terrible right?"
"I think they are just so happy to be playing in front of people at all that it doesn't occur to them."
"Wish I could play the piano though, it's such a beautiful sounding instrument."
"Shame they don't teach more things like that in schools."
They passed a small gated opening at the end of the street and looked inside to find a concrete path leading up through a small park. Even at night it looked like the most inviting place they had come across so far.
"Care to walk with me through the park, m'lady?"
"Why don't mind if I do kind sir."
He held out his elbow and she wrapped her arm around it, locked together they entered the park.
The Royal Darkness looked impatient as Price drew up the agreements in his private study. Various framed photos and keepsakes lined the shelves and walls. Price looking all proud posing with celebrities or now deceased business partners. Dante saw that kind of decorating as a sort of showing off. Never wave your successes around in front of everyone, it makes them want to see you fail more.
"I have business to get to Price so if you could hurry up with those papers."
"Just about done, sorry, this was kind of last minute and I didn't know I would be in this position."
"I know the feeling."
"These files will be everything you need to know about these two that we have collected and the agreement that...half....the business will be yours upon capture."
"Dead or alive."
"Alive until they either deliver the case or spill where it is. Once we have the case I don't care what you do with them."
Dante looked over the files for a moment, the silence was nerve wracking.
"Short, brown eyes, brunette. Masters degree. Best friend of original mule who was transporting the case from members involved in black market. Detective, years in own business, taken down high level gang members, blue eyes, thinning hair, history of being involved in gang busts going back a decade. Seems like you have a man who knows what he's doing and has taken to one of your missed cases."
"We had no idea how deep it was until we began pursuit and started losing members. Had the broad right in front of me but she didn't have the case or I would've taken her out there."
"Seems a little too easy but I want to see you squirm. I'll have some of my best men begin scouting and see what and where we can set up by tomorrow. Consider this favor in progress, once done, don't ever speak to me again."
Price swallowed hard and watched Dante gather what he needed and leave the room.
The breeze rolled through the leaves and the lights located around the park escalated the romantic feeling to even higher levels. The green of the grass was a perfect compliment to the many flowers planted along the pathway. The fact that more of these little places didn't exist upset Meg.
"When were you the most frightened while doing your job? Me excluded."
"Hmmm, the one that comes to mind right away is when I had to follow a man who was rumored to want to murder a single mother and her child. The case was rotten and all kinds of uncomfortable but I did it anyways. Followed the man to their house and while I made sure the mother was safe I wasn't quick enough to secure the infant. Caught up to the guy as he was taking the kid out of the top floor window. A second later and I would have seen him drop the child ending its life. Adults can handle a lot but babies already don't know where they are so ending a life is still ending a life, but one that can't defend itself gets me so angry."
"I could never do what you do, I don't know how you handle those kinds of situations and emotions."
"I used to not be able to , it was tough, but once you realize if you don't then they won't have a life....you kind of build up the courage over time."
"Just hearing the stories make me all kinds of sad."
"You are strong, you've been through more shit this past week then I'm sure you will for the rest of your life. You survived a gunshot that seems to be healing beautifully and even ever single attack we've had to get our way out of. You'd make a great detective."
"Aw you're just saying that because you are in love with me."
"That is a possibility."
"I appreciate the compliment but I don't see myself detecting any time soon."
"I wouldn't want you to, knowing you'd be in that kind of danger every day would have me a nervous wreck."
"We could work together, double team."
"True, but anything could still happen to you. I'd worry too much and if you did end up going, I would be shattered."
"Maybe I'll just stick to being yours in all other aspects then."
"Sounds like a plan to me."
They stopped at a railing that looked out over a large river. The moon in the sky reflected off of the waves and created what looked like a sea of diamonds.
"I know I say it a lot but I love you and I am so happy our lives crossed the way they did."
"Darlin, you've got me so head over heels that I'm going to quit the business after we do this to spend all my waking hours with you."
"You're too sweet." She yawned.
"Getting late."
"Yeah, let's get back, I'm really looking forward to snuggling up under those covers with you."
They kissed and looked at the moon one last time before heading off to their hotel.
The Royal Darkness rode the elevator down and entered his limo. He spoke softly to her group.
"I want the best gathering info and tracking these people. Look for credit card purchases, car sightings and any type of records you can find on these two. Driver, take me to 6th, I gotta talk to my secret weapon."

Devoted to You
The view from the balcony was beautiful, you could see most of the city and the hills beyond. Wind was blowing at a slow pace that was capable of relaxing anyone. The building was facing the majority of the city and another hotel across the way. It resembled the city she had left behind but seemed brighter and didn't radiate a dangerous feeling like the old one did. She was about to do something that she hadn't been able to do for what seemed like forever. A deep breath. Meg filled her lungs with the cool night air and closed her eyes. Her ears picked up the sounds of cars driving below and leaves rustling around the trees that reached for the stars. Taking another deep breath she opened her eyes. It was quiet and felt contained. Was she actually safe and not being followed? The door slid open behind her and Edward stepped out with two drinks.
"How're you doing out here?"
"It's....peaceful."
"That's a word I didn't think I'd hear again for a while."
"Almost forgot what it was like to just exist."
He handed her a glass of wine.
"Riesling."
Her favorite. She took a sip and felt it travel down her throat and through her chest.
"A weird part of me doesn't want to find that case so we could just keep doing this. Minus all the running from danger."
"We find that case, me and you will travel the world every day. More than just cities and forests."
"I've always wanted to fly overseas. Places it doesn't rain every single day."
They took sips of their drinks and some wind chimes rang in the distance.
"If things had gone different and you didn't become a detective, what would you have gone into?"
"I dunno, this has been something I've chased for so long. But honestly, probably writing. I always liked the way just a few words could create emotions and a whole world in the reader's head."
"Crime stories?"
"Possibly. Or love stories with a short brown eyed girl."
She blushed. The sun had set and the lights of the surrounding buildings were the only thing lighting them up in the night.
"What about you? What would be your dream career?"
She thought for a moment but knew what she'd been climbing the ladder for. "I want to help people. Anything from Human Resources to just helping in any kind of capacity like some sort of guidance counselor. Knowing I made a difference or even gave someone else hope is one of the greatest feelings I can imagine."
"You're one of the rare ones you know that?"
More blushing, she was practically a strawberry at this point.
"Hey, I saw a little restaurant on our way in that looked nice. Kind of a nightclub combination. If you're hungry I'd like to take you tonight."
"Dinner date? My tummy says yes sir."
He pulled her close and their lips met. They kissed for a few moments and put their glasses down. He kissed her neck and her eyes closed. As he continued kissing her, he turned her around to be behind and she held the railing of the balcony. She felt her pants being taken down, the cool breeze hitting her bare behind.
"Darlin, we're outside, someone could see us from across the..."
She felt him enter her. Letting out a small gasp she watched the windows across from her. It wasn't long before she stopped caring and let her body fill with ecstasy. Her legs were shaking while her moans went out into the night sky.
The Royal Darkness wasn't a gang to be messed with. There was years upon years of legends surrounding them and it was rare when they were even affordable to offer any sort of help. Dante was the boss in charge and always brought with him a couple of henchmen to take care of situations that he didn't want to get his hands dirty with. Today wasn't a particularly good day but he did owe this idiot a favor, even if he didn't agree with that. He was currently in the elevator going up to the top floor. The final floor dinged and he walked out and into a large room with windows reaching the ceiling and overlooking the city. A man faced the windows and a woman was washing the floor near a large desk. The doors shut and he approached the man.
"Price"
"Dante, it's been a while. Still have a small army with you I see."
"One can never be too careful."
"I am well aware of how you work and I wouldn't ask this of you unless it was a dire situation."
"Even so, I'm still going out of my way to help someone under me."
"This is a very serious and personal matter, the quicker we handle this the quicker I'll be a ghost to you."
"Before you go blabbering more, just what is it you need?"
"There is a family heir loom that ended up in the wrong hands that I'd like back. There are two pain in the asses who know where it is and I've chased them halfway to the damn coast."
"And you were unable to procure them?"
"I don't know how the hell they are doing it but they've managed to take out every man I've sent after them."
"So you need me to clean up and help you do what you're weak little establishment can't do?"
"In somewhat different words but yes."
"Barring the favor, what could I possibly get out of this?"
"The loot in the case is all yours, a cool million."
"Peanuts."
"I'll triple it, that's three million with no strings attached and then I disappear."
"I don't need money you little shit."
"Well what do you need? I'll make you any deal to get that back."
"I want half your establishment."
"H....half?"
"Pretty sure I didn't stutter but I have been known to not notice it but yes half."
"That's half of everything I've got going for me."
"Yes, yes it is."
"I don't know about half. Maybe there's a job or two I can do for you, I mean this is just you paying back a favor then we're squared."
"I am aware of what the situation is but I don't like it. Not good enough to get involved even if I do owe you a favor. This is beneath me."
"I promise you, it's just a quick easy job and then you'll never hear from me again."
"For a case of money?"
"The case is the personal part. It was my mother's. She's gone now and I don't have much to remember her by."
"That is touching, you do have a heart after all. Half your company Price or I walk out of those doors now."
Price thought for a long moment, the only sound in the room being the woman cleaning up her piss off the floor.
"I'd have to start something new or retire I guess."
"Not my concern Price, fifty or I'm gone."
"F...fine."
"Good, you're wiser than you look. My men will draw up an agreement. In the meantime I'd like a drink.....and a different room to speak in. This one smells of piss."
Meg came out of the bathroom in a long black dress that hugged her in all the right places. She had run out and bought a pair of high heels for just this occasion, she had a bit of an obsession with shoes like that. Edward got up off the bed with eyes wide. "Damn dew drop. You are so beautiful."
"Yeah I clean up good."
They shared a laugh and kissed before leaving the hotel. The streets were much better to walk down compared to the last place they were at and it was actually very nice. It reminded her of when she was younger and going down city streets with her friends and laughing and staying out late and visiting different bars. The club they were going to was called Bugaboo and looked far classier than she thought it would.
Inside they were seating at a nice table in the middle of the place and discovered a stage in front of them for entertainment. Daisies sat in a cup on the table and they ordered their meals while looking in one another's eyes and rubbing feet under the table like school children. Once their food arrived the lights went down low and a woman came out with a piano man and began singing a low tempo song filled with emotion. The spotlight on her shone her like a goddess above her angels of the crowd as her voice carried their meals to a whole new level.
Darlin', you can count on me
Til the sun dries up the sea
Until then, I'll always be
Devoted to you
I'll be yours through endless time
I'll adore your charms sublime
Guess by now you know that I'm
Devoted to you
The mood was elevated to a place where Meg was on cloud nine. He held her hand as they pushed their chairs closer together and watched the woman sing. Halfway through the first song she laid her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes. It was all worth it. The running, the hiding, the killing, being shot in the arm, the threats, the sweat and tears. It was all worth it just for this moment. Meg kept her eyes closed for the rest of the woman's set and never let go of Edward's hand. She said a prayer under her breath and enjoyed every single last note of their dinner date. God help the person who tried to interrupt or shoot at her tonight.
The audience clapped as the man at the piano played the final notes of the evening, the woman proud that her voice could captivate so many. "Thank you so much for coming out, you are why I'm able to follow my dreams, I hope you all have a beautiful night and a absolutely wonderful life." She walked off stage and the lights resumed their original brightness.
"Ready to go dew drop?"
"Maybe a few more minutes."
"You okay?"
"Absolutely wonderful."

New City New Threat
The road was a lot better going this time around, now that she could enjoy the view without feeling like she had to look behind her every five seconds. The rain did let up for a little bit and it was nice to see the outside world when there wasn't a dark cloud hovering over it. It was amazing to her just how much of the world she was missing by being cooped up in that apartment of hers in the city. All it took was having her life at risk and running from hitmen. Normal stuff. She had the window down to let in all the breeze she could and it blew through her hair giving her the sense of flying. She even went as far as to move her hand up and down on the wind current outside the window like everyone else seemed to do in movies. Even though they had to stick to a lot of the back roads to avoid any kind of unwanted attention, she was still able to take in parts of the area that she never would have otherwise. Edward was a good driver and his focus was never taken off of the road if it meant risking their safety. Watching his face, she saw a lot of the tough exterior had peeled off the longer he spent time with her. It was flattering that he chose her to let down his guard finally after all those years. He cared for her, cared like noone else she had ever come in contact with. Even if they weren't running for their lives and getting into brawls, she still felt a safety with him. A rare commodity these days. The radio played whatever was the newest hit of the year but it was just background noise to her, her focus was on the sights and Edward. A part of her wanted to sing aloud to the songs she knew like she did in the shower but was a little embarrassed not knowing how he would react to that. Almost as if he heard her thoughts, he grew a smile on his face and rubbed her knee. "What's up over there?"
"Oh nothing, just enjoying the sights and sounds."
"Finally have a decent day to do that with."
"What's the most beautiful place you've ever been to?"
"Haven't been to too many places, mostly around the city. But there were a few times that I ventured South to take in a little bit of culture as they say. That's how I know some people on the coast actually."
"Makes me feel so untraveled."
"Not your fault life handed you some lemons that you had to deal with. You still turned out just fine and look at you now, on your way across the country taking in all the nature you can fit in that beautiful head of yours."
"After this do you think you'll be able to start anew, without anyone secretly hunting you down?"
"Taking down the head honcho is a big deal. A lot of respect will be thrown my way and if I don't demand anything and leave it where it lays then that should be it for my worries."
"You're not going to miss the job?"
"Risking my life every week? Nah."
She could see a small city in the distance over some hills starting to rise up into view far far down the road. It looked a lot better than the town they were just at and looked like the options of things to do was about to grow exponentially. Her arm was feeling a lot better but there was still some soreness, you don't just walk off a gunshot wound.
"Have you ever been shot?"
"I've been shot at a million times but they rarely connect. If they do it is usually like yours and hits in a place that's not going to do detrimental harm. Still hurts like a son of a bitch though."
"I think one is enough for me."
A small black book was handed to the crime lord and he flipped through the pages weighing each option with equal merits. This one had to be special though. He had already gone through some of his best and couldn't waste any more time just throwing men at the problem. There were gangs that rose up through the ranks, assassins, various underground collectives, and some real nasty pieces of work. But he was looking for something specific. Near the end of the book he found what he was looking for. He waved his secretary over. "I want you to put the word out from me personally that I want to hold a meeting with the Royal Darkness. I have an issue that I'd like to see put to a stop faster than I've ever requested before. The highest priority."
"Yes, sir."
She left the room and the boss looked over at a picture of his family. His mother always was a model of kindness, even when she found out what he did for a living. If the Darkness couldn't handle this situation then he would either go out there himself or finally face facts that he may not be getting that heir loom back. He wouldn't let himself worry, even if at the moment he could feel it.
The city drew ever closer and expanded in size as they approached. Buildings surrounded on all sides and there were far more people here than where they were before. She had heard of places like New York and California but all she had to go on was imagined pictures of what it looked like in her head. They pulled through a few streets looking for a place to stay and get some rest. Everything seemed booked solid and it took them around half the city before they were able to find something decent and available. They stopped at a large hotel chain and were greeted at the door with the kindest service.
"May we take our bags?"
"Isn't much but sure."
"Your room is 815. Balcony side, if there is anything else we can do for you just let us know."
"Thank you so much."
They took the elevator up to the eighth floor, marveling at the decor as they saw each passing level.
"A balcony, ooolala. Wonder what sights I'll be seeing out there."
"Still have to be careful, never know where the boss' connections reach. Just try and relax and don't spend too much time being a tourist."
"You're such a party pooper."
"I just want to make sure you're safe and nothing happens to you."
"That's very thoughtful but I'm going on that balcony."
They reached the eighth floor and into their room. It was nice and spaceous with one of the most beautiful bathrooms she had ever seen. The temperature was absolutely perfect and because of the floor they were on, the view on the balcony allowed them to see the majority of the city.
"I may never leave here."
Edward walked over and laid on the bed. "Exhausted, I'm going to get some shut eye, feel free to marry the balcony and relax yourself. Wake me up if anything important happens."
"You are such a pooper. Yeah yeah, I'll be on the balcony but I'll probably join you very soon."
"Always the best thing to hear of my day. Love you dew drop."
"Love you too." She then quickly ran out onto the balcony.
The phone gave a few rings before being answered. "yes."
"Royal Darkness. It's Luthor. Remember that time I bailed your asses out of that situation back east? With the....holes."
"You will never let us forget."
"Well, let's just say today i'm cashing in that favor you owe me. You might want to sit down for this one."

Human to Feel
The pain was incredible, the world was out of focus and a slight breeze rolled by. A policeman lay on the ground with a gaping wound that was bleeding out. He had been attacked by a person from the dark. Being blindsided was something they didn't teach you but warned could happen. Bulletproof vests were great and all but were useless when bashed in the head. He could feel the world around him slipping away. What happened and where was his partner?
Backup.
He had to call the station.
But how?
The walkie that was on his belt, he could send a message. His strength had all but left him, his blood was still running out of his wound. With what strength he had left, he moved his hand an inch to his belt and felt around. The walkie wasn't there. His neck could barely turn, the pain was excruciating and with every second his world got darker, he knew he was slipping. The walkie was next to him on the ground, he slipped out of consciousness for a moment and with his last build up of strength he was able to grab the walkie. The side had a button that sent back a signal to the station, the button was tough to press but he managed to click it enough times to create a Morse code message to let his superiors know his location. With his last breath he hoped it went through intelligibly and then the darkness overtook him.
Raindrops began to slowly hit the roof of the car, each one sounding like a light tap on the metal. The leaves around the area collected the rest creating an ambiance that was contrarily beautiful to the dark bloody massacre that littered the ground. The night was quick and the only indicator that it was morning was some birds chirping and it wasn't pitch dark out. Meg was covered with his trench coat to keep warm and Edward wasn't in the car. A quick glance up to the car window showed a man's shadow moving with sounds of footsteps and noises. He was gathering the bodies up and putting them into a pile in the field outside of the forest. She joined him after watching for a moment. "Thanks for letting me sleep. Nightmares haven't been fun."
"You tossed and turned a lot I wanted to get rid of all of this before you woke up."
She looked at the bodies knowing she was responsible for two of them.
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Can't believe I did that."
"You never feel it until later. You did what you had to. Nothing wrong."
"I know, just surprised with myself."
"Not going to make the situation any better but one of the cops had his walkie in his hand. It's possible they are going to show up here at any minute."
"I'm getting used to it."
"I'm sorry. This isn't something someone should get used to. It's good and human to feel."
"I just want it to stop. How far are we?"
"Should just have two towns before a straight shot to the coast. Not super far. Not being on the train slowed us down a lot."
"And these asshats."
The bodies were piled up and he dumped a liquid over them and lit a match.
"You're going to burn them?"
"They don't deserve to rot in the forest with the vermin."
"Even the two gang members?"
"They're still people."
The match immediately ignited the men and Meg felt the warmth on her body. "Do you still feel when you do it?"
Edward didn't say anything at first and just watched the fire. Thoughts raced through his head filled with experiences and past instances. "No....not unless I care about the person I'm helping."
"Feeling anything right now?"
He looked at her, his deep blue eyes meeting hers. "More than I ever have."
She held on to him and he kissed her.
"Come on, let's get back on the road before the smoke leads them right to us."
He took her by the hand and led her back to the car. The car pulled out and crossed the field back to the road. Meg watched the fire as they passed, there was a feeling in her stomach that pushed her adrenaline higher. It wasn't about a case of money anymore.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!!" The crime lord threw his phone across the room smashing a vase. "Who the hell are these people?? I refuse to believe some short brunette and her dumb ass detective lover are taking down all my best men over and over and over again!!"
Four men and a secretary woman stood around the room nervous. He walked up to one of the men and got right in his face. "Any ideas in that skull of yours?"
"We're doing our best sir, never encountered anything like this before."
"I refuse to believe that."
He walked back to his desk seething. The woman came over to calm him down.
"They're going to get them, just calm down. Even if they don't, it's just a million, we got plenty more than that."
"Don't. Don't you dare tell me what to do."
"I'm just saying, maybe let it go. It's just a case of money. Tommy has way better leads."
He looked at her with more rage than he had ever felt.
"You have no idea what you're talking about. Don't you fucking dare talk about that case."
"I'm sorry...I...."
"Bend over the desk."
"W...what?"
"Bend over the damn desk!!"
She bent over the desk and laid flat.
"Jimmy, come here."
Her nerves rose as Jimmy approached. The boss lifted her skirt and ripped her panties off exposing her bare ass. She yelped in surprise and started shaking in fear. He handed Jimmy a gun.
"Put it in her."
"Excuse me boss?"
"Stick it in her, now!!"
Jimmy slowly put the muzzle of the gun on her vagina. The boss leaned onto the desk to look her directly in the face. "You question anything I do, you get fucked by a bullet. You understand?"
She was crying and shaking. "Yes, yes of course, I'm so sorry!"
He stared at her for a minute to let it all sink in and then stood up. "All of you out of my office, now!"
The men left with Jimmy tagging along shaken up. The woman stood and fixed her dress.
"Watch that mouth of yours. Now clean up your piss off the floor and get out."
He took up his place looking out of his windows at the city ahead of him.
They were out there.
Gloves were off now. They better enjoy their final days alive.
"Actually, when you're done cleaning that up, get me my black book."

The Couple Whose Love Beat an Entire Operation
The main top boss. He stood looking out of his large windows out onto the city that he pretty much owned. It was quiet and he stood alone in his office. The lights had been turned down so that the only light was coming from the city ahead and a sizable fish tank in the corner. The reflection of his face in the glass was that of anger and loneliness. He had been at this job for a long time, made a lot of people and made a lot of people disappear too. There were a lot of times where he couldn't believe he had made it to where he was but he had promised himself that he wouldn't stop until he reached the top. Every time he felt close there was something that happened or someone that stood up to him that made him feel like he still had a long way to go. The one thing that was always a reminder that there was a point to it all was the case that was given to him by his mother when he was younger. He had used it as luggage on every trip and as a incentive with every money exchange. Now it was lost and it took everything in him to keep calm about it. It was crazy how it had lasted so long and now the extreme and unnecessary chase had been going on for so long. Everything he was trying just wasn't working and that case was all he had left of his family. Sure it wasn't the best idea to keep using it in so many situations that would cause it to be lost but he considered it lucky. He knew he would get it back but this was getting worrisome. He poured himself a drink and watched the stars and thought back to that fateful night when it all went wrong.
"Come on Meg, we're going to be late!"
"Okay okay, just adjusting, what's your hurry anyway?"
"Nothing I just, I just want to get there and see what's going on."
"Do you know any of these people?"
"I don't know, I mean, I was invited so I must know somebody."
Meg stepped out from the closet wearing a long blue dress. "This look okay?"
"Very fancy, you should dress like that more often."
"I dunno, I feel too exposed."
"Exposed is good, plus when you've got girls like those you shouldn't be hiding them."
"Or I'm not a slut."
"That too. Come on, car is downstairs." She picked up a briefcase and headed toward the door.
"What is that all about anyways?"
"Just something I need to return to someone."
"What is it?"
"Nothing important, let's go."
The two women went downstairs and were driven out of the city to what looked like the biggest mansion ever built. Giant hedges were cut to look like angels and fountains poured water over stone statues. Lights led up to a front door kept watch by two massive men.
"Who do you know that lives here again?"
The car pulled up to the front and they both got out, walking up to the doors. The men looked them each up and down with one winking at Meg. She felt disgusting already. Spotting the briefcase in the other girl's hand, they opened the doors for them. "Have a good evening, ladies."
The interior was beyond words, it almost seemed a hundred times larger inside. Soft piano music played and hundreds of fancily dressed people milled about chatting. A grand staircase led up to another floor and a chandelier hung above the main area. Glasses clinked and every so often eyes would silently judge. Meg clearly was out of her normal environment.
What am I doing here, I don't belong. How does El know about this place and where did she get that case? It was like the person she had known for years was suddenly someone else, someone she didn't know.
A waiter passed and offered her a drink while her friend kept looking around for someone in particular.
"Who are you looking for?"
"Huh?"
"You seem worried and keep looking around."
"No, I'm just....taking it in."
El was usually the life of the party, so why did she look so scared and guilty?
The two toured around the rooms gazing at the large paintings, numerous fireplaces, and expensive looking everything. To be honest, Meg was bored out of her mind. To make matters worse, El seemed to have caught sight of who she was looking for.
"Hey, I gotta go talk to someone, I'll be right back." She ran off so fast Meg wasn't able to utter a response of any kind. Now she was by herself. Great. May as well take advantage of the situation and look around and sample some of the food.
El walked over to a small group of men dressed sharply and all wearing sunglasses, her heart rate started to raise. Once she got close enough they parted revealing the main gang leader and owner of the mansion.
"Ah, Ellen, I'm so glad you could come. It's been quite the past two years hasn't it?"
"I just want this over with, I can't do it anymore, all I do is look over my shoulder constantly."
"Well with what you've had to do for me I"m not surprised but we had everything handled."
"Getting this wasn't easy, there's a lot of family that won't be speaking to me anymore."
"It will all be over tonight I promise."
"What is all of this for anyways?"
"That isn't for you to worry about, just hand it over and your time will be done."
"I'll be left alone?"
"Oh you'll be left alone."
The men stood a little closer to her and she noticed that her way out was being blocked.
Meg sauntered around for a while before realizing this just wasn't worth it. Time to find El and get out of here, she had one too many pinches to the ass to feel like being alive anymore. She made her way around to where she last saw her friend and eventually found her in the middle of a group of dangerous looking men. What the hell was going on? She carefully walked closer and hid behind the wall looking over at the situation. The men took out some guns as El clutched the case close to her body. Were they going to kill her? What was this place, who were they?
"I did what you wanted why can't I just go?"
"You know too much, I just can' risk it."
She had begun crying. "Please please, I promise I won't say a thing!"
Meg had walked closer now and in a strange bit of courage stood up. "What's going on El, you okay?"
"Well well we have another witness, welcome to my home miss.....?"
"What are you doing with my friend?"
"She has something very important to me that I let her borrow in exchange for some favors. It's collection time."
El looked panicked. "Meg run, please just go!"
"Why, what is this?"
The men aimed guns at her friend.
"Her time is out, maybe take her advice my dear and forget what you saw."
Suddenly El took off running, pulling Meg with her and the men ran after with guns drawn.
"El what the hell are you involved in?"
"I'm so sorry Meg, I never wanted you involved. You have to promise me you'll guard this with your life and go far away. Please please please."
"What is it? Explain this!!"
She gave Meg the case and pushed her into a side room before the men saw and continued running with the men in pursuit. They passed the room as Meg held the case and looked out to see them corner her friend.
"Please, I did everything you wanted!"
"Sorry girl, boss' orders."
The sight Meg saw next would haunt her every day. The men opened fire on her friend as she screamed, her blood spraying the walls around her. Meg slid inside the room and held the case and began to cry. What in god's name was going on. Her whole world was upside down in a matter of moments. She could not stop shaking and after a few moments realized they'd be looking for the case and she ran as fast as she could until there was fire in her legs and lungs and she realized she was outside among trees in the middle of nowhere. Her friend was dead and she held the cause. Gunshots rang in her ears and her friend's screaming echoed louder and louder and louder.
She opened her eyes in the backseat of the car in the forest on top of Edward. She hugged him close and silently cried her eyes out, haunted once more by the memory of seeing her friend gunned down. The terrified look on her face and screaming out for her life. The journey to the case even more important to her. How would her journey end?
The crime lord finished his drink and shut out the lights. For a brief moment he felt bad for the things he'd done. One moment. The case was his family, he was stupid to use it for exchanges. This would be his last job. He was getting that case back no matter what the cost. This was going to require his best, even if he had to do it himself. He left his office more tired than usual, thinking of only one thing. The couple whose love was beating his entire operation.

She was Worth More than any Situation or Physical Attribute
"Look you stupid cops, we're looking for the same person! They just flew by us here and they're getting away while we argue with you!"
The two cops have a sudden realization on their faces and look to one another. "I think he's right."
"Of course I'm right, bring your damn car around and let's get them!"
Caught up in the heat of the moment, the police return with their cop car and scoop up the two men and take off down the road after the couple.
In a high tower in the middle of a city, the main crime boss sits staring out into the skyline. A clock ticks in the background echoing around the large room. This whole situation was continuing on far longer than he liked. This was supposed to be done over a week ago and now he sits here with nothing and a bunch of dead men. No matter who he sent after this punk detective and that girl just ended up dead. How the hell was that even possible? That case was important to him, the only semblense of his family that he had left. That night at the party it could've all been over but he had to put his trust in that stupid moron of a girl who lost the damn case. At least she paid for it with her life, not that it felt any better. A knock came at his door. "Come." A women walked over to his desk looking nervous. "Tell me you have some kind of good news."
"I'm afraid not. Word had come back that they had them in a small town about two miles from the farm but they got away, they are in pursuit trying to find them now."
"God damn incompetent asses. Could've had just as much work out of anyone off the street. No idea why I pay these idiots. Why can't we catch these assholes!"
He slammed his fist onto his desk knocking over a few objects and making the woman jump.
"Natalia, I'm feeling a bit pissed off right now, so before I do something that I will most definately regret, I'm going to need a little release to let off some steam."
"Yes sir. Whatever you please."
He unzipped his pants and she got to her knees in front of him.
"If these two aren't caught soon, there is going to be some major hell to pay. Personally."
The couple was making good time down the road but keeping an eye out because there hadn't been a day where they could rest easy. Edward was trying to find a way back onto the main road to be back on track while Meg was fixing her hair in the side mirror and watching the different views go by. "What if mr. crime boss starts sending tougher people? Poison us in the night or something?"
"He needs us alive for the case."
"What if he decides to not need the case anymore?"
"He won't give up like that, plus we know things and he'll off us anyway."
"You know this guy?"
"Only by reputation. Your typical crime boss, lots of men working for him and is in the pocket of the police and judges. He will and frequently does get away with murder. We're just another thorn in his side."
"Maybe we'll be the first ones he'll let go, I mean, he's going to end up losing all of his men at this rate."
"Doubtful, as long as people will do things for money, he'll always have someone working for him."
She put her hair up above her and made a face in the mirror. "Would you still love me if I had no arms?"
"What?"
"No arms, just me as I am now but no arms."
"Sure I would."
"You'd have to do my makeup and feed me."
"I could do that."
"When do you know how to do makeup."
"You don't need it, plus I couldn't be that bad."
"Okay, how about no ears."
"Nothing at all?"
"Maybe little holes on the sides of my head."
"Would your holes hear the same as if you had ears?"
"Not as good but decent."
"I guess I would talk a little louder to you."
The chatter made her feel a little better and she continued to style her hair in the mirror. A car was pulling up closer behind them and she gave a side glance in the mirror to acknowledge it but made nothing of it at first.
"How about no butt."
"No butt?"
"Yeah, just smooth flat skin to my ankles."
"That would look odd and how would you go to the bathroom?"
"Um, I think I would evolve to just not need to. Just drink liquids."
"You have a very nice butt though. I dunno."
"So you wouldn't love me if I didn't have an ass?"
"I would still love you, it just may be difficult re-purposing all the places you'd be sitting with special cushions."
"And you'd have nothing to stare at when I walked around."
"Very true."
She resumed her gaze back at the mirror and noticed it was a police car behind them. "Hey, the cops are behind us."
He looked into the rearview mirror and saw them driving closer. There were four people inside as well, too many for a normal ride. "You'll never guess who is in the car."
"You gotta be kidding me."
"Seatbelt on babe, this could get bumpy."
"Oh good, and here I thought I was going to be able to relax, phew!"
He pressed the gas and they sped ahead faster. The police car picked up the pace and turned on its siren. They were now in a pursuit chase. He took corners a bit tighter and tried to take a few off road pathways to try and lose them but they were better than the average police and were able to keep up the pace quite well. As they got closer, the two men in the back of the car leaned out the windows and aimed their guns at the car. On the first straightaway they got a shot or two off.
"Their shooting?"
"What else would you do if you wanted someone dead?"
He tried every maneuver he had but could not outrun or outsmart them. He would have to think of an alternative method to stop this. An unconventional one. "Dew drop, we're going to have to take them out, the car isn't going to do it, we're going to have to pull over and improvise."
"Whatever we gotta do."
He took the first road he saw into the woods and pulled off the road into a dark alcove and shut the car off. He led her away from the car and up a small hill overlooking the area. The police car entered and came to a stop. The red and blue lights lit up the surrounding area and the four men got out with weapons drawn. "Alright, come on out, you aren't going to make it anywhere. Give yourself up now and we'll go easy on you." They walked around the area.
Edward was sneeking around above and handed Meg a think sharp tree branch that looked more dangerous than anything she ever handled. "When you have a shot, jump down and jam it as hard as you can into one of them. We are leaving this forest alone, me and you."
Kill someone, the thought made her nervous, she had seen Edward do it and knew at some point she would have to. Her heart thumped in her chest and she mentally prepared herself for what she was going to have to do.
The men below walked around cautiously with weapons scanning the area and trying to see what they could through flashing red and blue. The cops took one side and split up slightly. One investigated a darker portion and his life suddenly stopped when Edward came out of the darkness and plunged his sharp dagger into the neck of the officer and dragged his lifeless body into the bushes. The other cop heard a slight noise and turned to check on his partner but could not find him. He scratched his head in curiosity when severe pain then blackness overtook him as Meg came down from above with her javelin. She had done it. It didn't really feel like much, whether that was a good thing or not. Two down two to go. They regrouped back above.
"Hey Alan, they could be anywhere man, they ditched the car and probably took off deep into the woods. I'm not searching this damn area all night."
"Shut up or they'll hear you, just keep looking around and keep your eyes open."
They were too busy talking to notice two shadows position themselves above them with sharp objects at the ready.
"I think I found the car man, looks empty. Just like I said, now who's the URK!" His neck was pierced and Edward pulled his body behind the car and into the grass.
"What's that Sam? Sam? Did you find them?"
Meg appeared in front of him, starling him. "He sure did, ass face." She jabbed her implement into his throat and he gargled and grasped at the weapon before falling to the ground dead. "I feel like a warrior."
"You did a good job Megels, you okay?"
"I'm alright, can we please just rest here in the car? I just can't after today. Such a hot mess."
"Sure, I think we'll be more than safe in here off the road in the middle of nowhere. They won't be bothering us and we aren't anywhere near a place to be spotted or found."
They climbed into the backseat of the car and snuggled up in each other's arms. The moon lit up the trees around them and the ambience of crickets and frogs filled the air.
"I love you dew drop, every day that goes by there is some event that reminds me that I am so very lucky I met you."
"Right back at you beautiful."
They kissed and laid in silence.
"First thing in the morning we get back on the road. We're going to make it, you have my word."
She smiled on laid on is chest listening to his heartbeat.
"What if I only had one boob?"
"Go to sleep darlin."
