The angel in the passenger seat

The trip would be a long one but traveling a many hour road trip only emitted a fun adventurous feeling that provided more intimate time with one another.  The car was loaded up with all that would be needed and the day before was spent cleaning up the apartment to a brand new sheen so that it would be all taken care of with nothing to worry about.  To ensure the safest trip they both made sure they had enough sleep the night before and recharged their inner batteries to the fullest they could.  The upcoming trip allowed them to cross many borders of neighboring states with an option of an overnight stay in a rest stop snuggled up in the car.  The latter being something they tended to avoid and never partook in even though they knew it was a good idea.  He spent most of the prep time looking at her, hard to believe that she had once been someone who told random stories to at his job and now there she was, the one person in the world that he couldn't live without.  She caught his glance a few times offering a delicate smile combined with a scrunch of her nose to show that she appreciated the look and even though she was making sure everything was in order, she wanted to attack him to the floor with romance.  They were lucky that the weather was on their side this time and with the last of the checklist all sorted out they waved a goodbye to the apartment and walked, hands full of bags and the such, to the car to start their long trek up north.  They had a bad habit of stocking up on unhealthy snacks for the road but they couldn't help it, they were delicious!  Once situated in the car they once again decided to make a beginning pit stop at the nearby gas station to hunt for the aforementioned snacks.  She volunteered to run in and grab what she could and returned with a healthy amount of chips, poptarts, candy, faygo sodas, and with a embarrassed smile she produced two scratch off lottery tickets as well.  The tickets provided their usual free ticket prize and they drove off towards their destination.
The ride started off with one another full of the day's energy and conversing about what they would talk about for the duration as well as who would be taking the first sleeping shift and when they would be switching out the drivers seat.  Just being near her was making the day one of his most favorite.  There was something about seeing her driving that he relished in sitting opposite from her.  He was free to look without needing to keep his eyes on the road and took small joys in the little things that she did.  The way her arm reached out and held the wheel, the sun reflecting off of her exposed skin.  She had decked herself out in her favorite sunglasses and the way her hair fell over the lenses from time to time made him feel like he was a school boy again that just got waved to from the prettiest girl in the class.  She always either caught him looking or just knew he was but never spoke a word about it, taking it in every minute she could.  She couldn't resist any more and switched on a playlist of her favorite songs.  The concert was about to start.  Hearing her sing to every song was literally music to his ears.  She knew every word and belted out her tunes in the only way she knew and he sat back joining in when he knew the words and dancing along with her if just to make her smile.  She regaled his ears with the song stylings of Cher, Barry Manilow, and when she really wanted to kick it up a notch....The Spice Girls.  They laughed through the car concert until they switched back and forth during the hours from Harry Potter trivia to making up little stories to continue with and write down later.  These trips are where he introduced her to his favorite podcasts and complained when she was trying to sleep when they were on because she wanted to listen to them and wasn't falling asleep.
After the halfway point the romance in the vehicle grew once more and talks of their future permeated the car.  They spoke of their memories of meeting and their favorite past moments.  What kind of wedding they would have and the name of their first child.  He secretly wanted a girl first and made it a running joke to figure out a name for the child by which one fit the phrase "get out of the dishwasher" well enough.  The top favorite name of his was Layla.  The twinkle in their eyes soon matched the wondrous sky of stars that adorned the sky above them.  As they drove on, the highway lights lit up the car as they passed illuminating all around them.  They took turns sleeping and he couldn't help but smile as he drove on getting closer to their destination.  Growing up he had wished for someone like her, he would fantasize about what he would do and the many adventures he could have.  And there she was.  She was more than he could have wished for and while he had heard the cliche many times before that when you find your one, you feel a sense of completeness and something in your heart feels a swelling that you can't put into words.  He sat driving in speechlessness as his angel lay sleeping in the seat beside him.  He kept the radio low as not to wake her and did his best to drive as safe as possible.  He had never thought about having his own family before and his mind never wandered into child territory like it did with her.  She had an essence about her that grabbed him upon their first meeting and now that they were together, he just knew.  He wanted to wake her just to tell her that he loved her.  He decided to say it anyways over her sleeping sounds.  The miles continued to go on but he had transcended above the road and drove on with the happiest heart, the night may have begun to get dark but his future was full of light.  He happily vowed to spend the rest of his life making her the happiest girl that ever lived.  The angel in the passenger seat.
